Association of Acupuncture Clinicians
Your Acupuncture Consultation & First Treatment Your first acupuncture appointment is designed to give us a complete understanding of your health, your symptoms, and the underlying patterns affecting your wellbeing. We begin with a detailed conversation about your medical history, lifestyle, stress levels, sleep, work demands, and daily activities. This helps us see the full picture of what your body is dealing with and where imbalance may be coming from. A comprehensive acupuncture-focused examination follows. This may include posture and movement assessment, breathing patterns, areas of tension, and gentle palpation of channels and points related to your symptoms. The goal is to understand how your body is functioning as a whole so we can identify the most effective acupuncture approach for you. Once we’ve completed your assessment, we explain our findings in a clear, unhurried way. You’ll learn what we believe is contributing to your symptoms and how acupuncture can support your recovery, relaxation, or overall wellbeing. We then outline your personalised treatment plan, including the recommended number of sessions and the changes you can expect over time. With your consent, your first acupuncture treatment takes place during this appointment. Very fine, sterile needles are placed at specific points to reduce tension, support the nervous system, and encourage natural healing. Many patients find this first session deeply calming. Your care plan is tailored to your symptoms, your lifestyle, and your goals — whether that’s easing pain, relieving stress, improving sleep, or simply helping you feel more balanced day to day.
Before agreeing on a course of treatment with your acupuncturist it is important that you check with your Private Health Insurer to confirm that your treatment will be covered by your policy as this information is subject to changes outside of our control.
